WWE SmackDown Results 8/16 - Women's Championship Commemoration, #1 Contenders WWE Tag Team Title Match

Welcome to Wrestling Inc.'s results for "WWE SmackDown" on August 16, 2024, coming to you live from the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida!

Nia Jax will be appearing on "SmackDown" before the WWE Universe for the first time since WWE SummerSlam as Tiffany Stratton holds a WWE Women's Championship commemoration for her. Not only did Jax dethrone Bayley as titleholder at the August 3 Premium Live Event, but cracks in the alliance between Jax and Stratton have begun to form as the result of the latter's Women's Money In The Bank briefcase.

After advancing in the semifinals of the WWE Tag Team Championship Number One Contenders Tournament during last week's edition of "SmackDown", The Street Profits and #DIY will battle it out to determine who earns the right to challenge titleholders Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins emerged victorious over A-Town Down Under to secure their spot in tonight's match while Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano defeated Pretty Deadly.

Speaking of The Bloodline, Solo Sikoa, Tanga Loa, and the aforementioned Tonga were blindsided by Roman Reigns last week after Sikoa called him out. Reigns subsequently put Sikoa on notice and sent him a message by taking out Sikoa and Loa. Following such events, Reigns will be appearing on tonight's show.

Grayson Waller will be returning to singles competition tonight for the first time since defeating the aforementioned Gargano on the June 7 episode of "SmackDown" as he goes one-on-one with Kevin Owens. Although he was at first hesitant to accept the opportunity, Cody Rhodes offered Owens a shot at his Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE Bash In Berlin on August 31 last week. Liking the idea, "SmackDown" General Manager Nick Aldis made it official later that same night.

Jade Cargill defeated Alba Fyre last week in singles competition, but Fyre, the other half of The Unholy Union Isla Dawn, and their new ally Blair Davenport blindsided Cargill and her tag team partner Belair following the match. Naomi ultimately provided a helping hand to her friends, and tonight, she looks to seek some retribution for the events of last week as she collides with Davenport.

Additionally, the aforementioned Bayley, Belair, Cargill, and Rhodes are all slated to be in town per WWE's event page.

We are live! The show kicks off with a video recapping what happened between The Bloodline and Roman Reigns last week.

Wade Barrett and Corey Graves then greet audiences at home as Tiffany Stratton is waiting inside the ring.

Stratton introduces Jax as Pretty Deadly stands by in costume, and she makes her way down to the ring being carried in a throne.

Stratton places Jax's WWE Women's Championship on her shoulder, and Jax says that Stratton shouldn't have. Stratton says she wanted everything to pop, and asks Jax if she likes it. Jax says she appreciates Stratton, but this isn't her style. She says her style is more destruction, and says she kept her word when she dethroned Bayley. She says she's the new WWE Women's Championship, then demands the WWE Universe bw down.

Pretty Deadly bows down, and Jax demands Stratton bows down as well. Stratton tries talking her way out of bowing down, and Pretty Deadly then presents their newest musical. Michin appears out of nowhere and hits Pretty Deadly with the kendo stick. She takes several shots at Jax, then takes more shots at Pretty Deadly.

Andrade then makes his way down to the ring. Carmelo Hayes follows.

The bell rings and Hayes rolls out of the ring. Andrade follows him out there, but Hayes slides back in. Andrade lands a kick on Hayes' head from the apron, but Hayes fires off stomps and right hands on him. Hayes connects with a springboard clothesline on Andrade, then follows it up with a chop and a couple of right hands.

Andrade lands a dropkick, then follows it up with a springboard moonsault off the middle rope on the outside. Andrade gets Hayes back in the ring, but Hayes slides out and delivers a jawbreaker to Andrade off the top rope. Andrade then ascends to the top, but Hayes pushes him off.

Back from the break, Hayes ascends to the top but Andrade joins him up there and delivers a Spanish Fly. He goes for a pin, but Hayes kicks out and connects with a superkick on Andrade. Andrade delivers The Three Amigos to Hayes, but Hayes ascends to the top and looks to fly. Andrade moves out of the way, then levels Hayes and goes for a pin. Hayes kicks out and pins Andrade for the win.

Winner: Carmelo Hayes

After the match, Andrade and Hayes continue to brawl with one another but officials run down to the ring to break the pair up.

We then head backstage to Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga, where Tonga hands Sikoa his lei.

Back at ringside, Naomi makes her way out. Blair Davenport follows, and Roxanne Perez is in the crowd to watch the action.

The bell rings and Davenport shoves Naomi. Naomi delivers a kick to Davenport's midsection, then connects with a split legged moonsault and a dropkick through the middle rope. Naomi then delivers a splash off the ring apron and ascends to the top before she lands a crossbody off the middle rope.

Back from the break, Naomi and Davenport level one another with crossbodies. Naomi responds with an enzuigiri and a dropkick in the corner, then looks to connect with a split legged moonsault. Davenport blocks her and connects with a running knee on Naomi for the win.

Winner: Blair Davenport

We then head over to a tribute video for Afa Anoa'i following the news of his death earlier today.

Back from the break, Kevin Owens makes his way down to the ring. A-Town Down Under follows, and Ethan Page is watching the action from the crowd. 

The bell rings and Owens connects with a dropkick on Waller. He levels him with a back elbow and follows it up with senton, then charges at Waller. Waller rolls out of the ring, and Owens meets him there with a clothesline. He sends Waller crashing into the barricade spine first, then sends him colliding with the announce desk and gets him back in the ring.

Theory distracts Waller, allowing Waller to level him. Owens takes down Theory and sends him crashing over the barricade near the timekeeper's area. He sends Owens crashing into the barricade, then connects with an elevated DDT and flies off the ropes to level him back in the ring.

Owens and Waller teeter on the ropes, but Owens fires off headbutts on Waller and hits a Swanton Bomb. He goes for a pin, but Waller kicks out. Waller then looks to land a rolling stunner, but Owens sees him coming. He connects with a Stunner and a pop-up powerbomb for the win.

Winner: Kevin Owens

After the match, Owens dumps Waller out of the ring and sends him crashing into the big PRIME Hydration bottle at ringside. Theory helps out Waller, then grabs a chair as Waller follows suit. Cody Rhodes' music hits, and he runs down to the ring. He grabs a chair as Owens does the same, and the two use them to hit on A-Town Down Under. A-Town Down Under retreat, and Owens grabs Rhodes' Undisputed WWE Championship before he forcefully hands it back to him.

Back from the break, we head over to a video of Legado Del Fantasma having dinner with each other.

LA Knight makes his way down to the ring. Knight says he wants to talk to fans, then says he wants to talk to fans. He addresses Santos Escobar, then warns him that there's a BFT waiting for him next week in their United States Championship match. He takes a few more shots at Escobar, then says he'll be walking out still holding the title.

We then head backstage and see a verbal confrontation between Michin and Chelsea Green and Piper Niven. After Niven and Green head into Nick Aldis' office, Nia Jax attacks Michin.

Back at ringside, The Street Profits and B-Fab make their way down to the ring. #DIY follows, and Trick Williams is in the crowd to watch the action. 

Ford and Gargano begin the action. The bell rings and the two lock up. They take turns locking one another in submission holds before Dawkins and Ciampa tag in. They lock up and go back and forth. Ford tags in, and The Street Profits double team on #DIY.

Back from the break, Ford dumps Gargano onto the apron. Gargano responds with a spear to Ford through the middle rope, then tags in Ciampa. Ford sends Ciampa crashing into Gargano, then tags in Dawkins. Dawkins tosses Ciampa over to Ford, and Ford catches him with a back suplex mid-air. Dawkins then ascends to the top and delivers a Swanton Bomb, but Ciampa moves out of the way and delivers a running knee to Dawkins.

Gargano tags in and Dawkins connects with a suplex. Ford then tags in, and both Gargano and Ford fly to level Dawkins and Ciampa on the outside respectively.

Back from another break, Ford delivers a 450 Splash off the top, but Ciampa transitions into a pin. Ford kicks out, and Gargano tags in. #DIY connects with Shatter Machine on him and set up for Meeting In The Middle, but Dawkins pulls out of the ring and tags in. The Street Profits then deliver a spinebuster-neckbreaker combination to Ciampa.

Gargano tags back in, and Gargano lands a superkick on Dawkins. They then double team on Dawkins and go for a pin, but Dawkins kicks out. Gargano levels Ford on the outside with a tope suicida, then looks to land a spear through the middle rope on Dawkins. Dawkins counters into a neckbreaker , then tags in Ford. Ford ascends to the top as Dawkins gets Gargano in an Electric Chair position. Ford lands a Blockbuster on Gargano for the win.

Winners (and new Number One Contenders): The Street Profits

Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga then make their way down to the ring.

Sikoa demands that Orlando acknowledges him, then says if Roman Reigns wants his lei back, then he has to come and get it.

Reigns' music hits and he makes his way out. He stares down Sikoa, and the pair begin brawling with one another. Tonga goes after Reigns, but Reigns levels him and dumps him out of the ring. Sikoa gets Reigns back in the ring and sets up for the Samoan Spike, but Reigns levels Sikoa with a Superman Punch and follows it up with a spear. Reigns grabs the lei and holds it up, then puts it around his neck.

Jacob Fatu blindsides Reigns and delivers a Hip Attack to him. Sikoa begins to direct traffic, and The Bloodline delivers a triple powerbomb to Reigns through the announce desk. Tonga places the lei around Sikoa's neck, and The Bloodline holds up the One symbol as the show goes off the air.
