AEW Collision Live Coverage 7/20/24: Women's Lumberjack Match, Trios Titles Up For Grabs

Welcome to Wrestling Inc.'s live coverage of AEW "Collision" on July 20, 2024 live from the ESports Stadium in Arlington, Texas! This is the first week of a six week residency for "Collision" and ROH on the "Path to ALL IN" series.

Deonna Purrazzo and Thunder Rosa have been feuding since March and they don't seem to be ending it anytime soon. Two weeks ago on "Rampage", "The Virtuosa" attacked Rosa after her match. This led to "La Mera Mera" to challenge her to a lumberjack match. Skye Blue recently set out to challenge herself against the best and has former three-time AEW Women's Champion, Hikaru Shida in her sights. After losing to Mariah May in the semifinals of the Owen Hart Cup tournament, Shida looks to get back on track.

When Orange Cassidy needed a backup, Tomohiro ISHII answered the call. On last night's "Rampage", he became a member of The Conglomeration and teamed up with Cassidy and Kyle O'Reilly to beat Undisputed Kingdom. In a backstage promo, Mark Briscoe was not thrilled about his "Death Before Dishonor" opponent, Roderick Strong hitting him in the jaw. To get even, Briscoe is putting forth ISHII to face Strong tonight.

Last week on "Collision", Christopher Daniels stripped the Bang Bang Gang of the Unified Trios Championships due to Jay White being out with an injury. Instead of implementing the Free Bird rule to allow Juice Robinson to take his place, Daniels took their titles away. Christian Cage suggested that The Patriarchy be given the titles. Daniels decided that the two teams would instead have a match for the titles.

On "Dynamite", Darby Allin returned to officially join Team AEW in next week's Blood and Guts match. As a warmup, he'll face off against The Beast Mortos. Two weeks ago, Mortos had an excellent match with Claudio Castagnoli.

After weeks of vignettes, we will see the debut of Hologram.

Allin immediately ended up in the corner after the bell rang. Allin couldn't take Mortos off his feet and got caught in a spinning side headlock. He followed with a shoulder tackle. Allin finally took him down with a shotgun dropkick and a tope suicida.

Allin jumped off the apron for a hurricanrana, but was caught and tossed into steel steps. Back in the ring, Mortos put Allin in the Romero Special and threw him into the turnbuckle. Beast Mortos tossed Allin in the air, put him in a fireman's carry, and finished with a back body drop.

Allin went for a rollup, but Mortos kicked out. Allin tried again with a crossbody from the ropes. Allin for a springboard from the middle rope, but he was caught again. Mortos went for a Destroyer, but Allin reversed it and rolled him up. Allin put Mortos in a rear naked choke, but Mortos got to his feet and slammed him into the turnbuckle. Mortos went for a cannonball, but Allin moved and Mortos tumbled out of the ring. Allin hit him with a coffin drop on the outside, but Mortos caught him.

Mortos headbutted Allin off the apron and followed with a tornillo. Mortos took him out with a spear. Mortos chopped Allin so hard that he fell to his feet. Mortos followed with a forearm. He dared Allin to chop him. Allin gave him some body shots and followed with a Code Red.

Allin went up top and Mortos nailed him with an uppercut. Mortos joined Allin up top. Mortos picked Allin up and threw him to the mat. He followed, but grabbed his knee, which was hurt earlier in the match. Mortos got a two count. They both went back up top. Mortos went for a crucifix bomb. Allin followed with a coffin drop for the win.

Following the match, Allin challenged Jack Perry for the TNT Championship at Wembley.

Winner: Darby Allin

As soon as the bell ring, Blue hit Shida with a running dropkick. They fought in the corner before exchanging forearm shots. Blue caught Shida with an elbow and Shida shoulder tackled into the ropes. Shida hit a crossbody while Blue was on the outside. She hit her head on the barricade and they called for medical attention and went to a break.

After the break, Shida was declared the winner by ref stoppage. Tony Khan later tweeted that Blue has an ankle injury.

We cut to the backstage area, where Lance Archer is tossing people around. 

Nese came out first to trash the crowd with his usual heel nonsense. Fenix came out to loud applause because the fans were glad to be saved from this drivel. Nese started the match by working on Fenix's arm. Fenix used the rope to gain control and went to work on Nese's arm. Nese elbowed Fenix under the chin and chopped him. He took him down with a spinning heel kick and pinned him for two.

Nese hit him with forearms from behind. Fenix got tripped up on the ropes and missed a springboard. Tony Schiavone thinks Josh Wood grabbed Fenix's foot and made him fall. Nese with a blow to the midsection and Fenix pushed him to the outside. Fenix did a baseball slide, but there was no one there. Woods and Daivairi beat him up on the outside.

Fenix put Nese in the ring before going up top. He ran across the ropes and kicked Mark Sterling off the apron. Nese did a 450 Splash onto Fenix, but only got the two count. Nese went for a pump handle slam, but Fenix got out. He ran across the ropes, but Nese ducked. Fenix with a frog splash for the victory.

Winner: Rey Fenix

Tony Schiavone hosted FTR in the ring. Starting next week, FTR is on the road to Wembley and they're coming for the Young Bucks and their tag team titles.

Backstage, Shida challenged Britt Baker for next week's "Dynamite".

ISHII pushed Strong ino the ropes, so Strong chopped him. They exchanged chops in the middle of the ring. ISHII took Strong down with a big shoulder tackle. Strong was in the corner and hit ISHII with forearms to no avail. Strong tried to duck under his arm. When he stood up, ISHII forearmed him. ISHII repeatedly took Strong down to the point that Strong had to roll out for a breather.

ISHII went to the outside. Strong kicked him in the stomach and slammed his face onto the apron. ISHII returned the favor and put him in the ring. Strong did a running baseball slide and ISHII tumbled into the barricade. Strong slammed him into the apron.

After the break, Strong took control of the match. ISHII with a crossbody. They exchanged blows. ISHII lived up to his "Stone Pitbull" nickname. He backed Strong into the corner and rained down forearms. ISHII suplexed Strong. Strong escaped to the corner, but ISHII put him on the turnbuckle and put him in a vertical suplex on the second rope before superplexing him. ISHII tried to flip Strong, but Strong hit a back body drop. ISHII escaped a fireman's carry. Strong ducked a shoulder tackle and hit an electric slam. Strong went for an End of Heartache, but ISHII reversed. They exchanged more forearms. Strong went for a running knee, but ISHII caught him. ISHII followed with two lariats, but only pinned him for two.

Matt Taven and Mike Bennett distracted ISHII so Strong could low blow him and hit him with a running knee.

Winner: Roderick Strong

After the match, they held ISHII in place, but The Conglomeration stopped it.

Hologram made his way to the ring with a cape with a neon H on it. His opponent Gringo Loco was already in the ring. Hologram immediately went for Loco. He ran up and stood on Loco's shoulders and went into a hurricanrana.

Hologram went to the ropes and Loco had him on his shoulders, but Holorgram did cool lucha things. Hologram with a shotgun dropkick through the ropes and then a dive over the top rope. Hologram with an enzuiguri from the apron and another hurricanrana. Loco grabbed Hologram by the back of the head and shoved him into the turnbuckle really hard.

Loco stomped on Hologram and chopped him on the ropes. Loco picked Hologram up and dropped him over his head before a standing 450 for two. Loco went up top for a tornillo, but Hologram rolled out of the way. Hologram kept dodging Loco in the corner.

Hologram went up top for more lucha things. Hologram did a top rope hurricanrana on the floor. Hologram with a spinning heel kick to the head and an airplane spin into a powerbomb for the win.

Winner: Hologram

Thunder Rosa and Purrazzo exchange body shots. Purrazzo goes outside first. Rosa with a dropkick and a senton blast. Purrazzo to the outside again. Rosa chopped Purrazzo into the corner. They did an Irish Whip and Rosa kicked her and then a crossbody from the second rope. Purrazzo sent her to the apron and faceplanted her. Purrazzo stomped Rosa several times and sent her to the outside. Purrazzo missed with a baseball slide. Rachael Ellering took out Purrazzo. Valkyrie held Rosa's legs to keep her from going up the turnbuckle. Purrazzo slapped Rosa in the face and joined her up top. Purrazzo perplexed her into the lumberjacks.

After the break, Purazzo threw Rosa to the outside. She fought with Diamante on the outside. Rosa rained down body shots and a running dropkick. Rosa with an airplane spin and a Death Valley Driver for two. Rosa went for a piledriver, but Purazzo reversed into an armbar. Rosa tried to pin while in the armbar. Purrazzo with a boot to the face and Rosa returned one. Rosa went for a lariat, but Purrazo reversed it into a slam. Purrazzo went for a pumphandle slam, but Rosa reversed. Purrazzo with an armbar, but Rosa rolled over. Purrazzo kept working on her arm.

On the apron, Purrazzo exchanged blows. Purrazzo hit her with a guillotine. Rosa with a spear through the ropes into the lumberjacks. Valkyrie took out Ellering. Rosa put Purrazzo in the ring, but Diamante attacked Rosa. The lumberjacks were brawling and Valkyrie handed Purrazzo the turnbuckle wrench. Purrazzo hit Rosa with it and pinned her.

Winner: Deonna Purrazzo

Wayne and Austin start us off with lockups and side headlocks. Austin takes Wayne down with a scissor headlock. Austin sent Wayne to the corner, so Christian tagged in. Juice tagged in. Christian tagged Killswitch in. Juice chopped him in the corner and Killswitch kept coming forward. Killswitch took him down with a boot to the face. Juice bit Killswitch's hands. Christian hit Juice in the back and put him in a guillotine.

Following the break, Colten took out Wayne and Killswitch. Colten with a cutter to Wayne. Austin tagged in and beat up Wayne in the other corner. Austin ran across the ring to take out Wayne, but Wayne ducked him and shoved him. Austin's momentum took him out of the ring.

Wayne threw Austin back into the ring and attempted a pin. Wayne backed himself into the corner to allow Cage to tag in. Cage raked Austin's back and then stood on his head. Colten yelled at Cage. Cage took Austin to the center of the ring and raked his eyes. Killswitch tagged in and chopped Austin in the corner. Killswitch dropped Austin in the middle of the ring.

Juice tagged in as did Wayne. Wayne misses a cutter and eats Left Hands of God. Robinson with a senton and a cover for two. Juice threw Wayne into the ropes and Cage pulled Wayne out. As they were hugging, Robinson dove onto them. Robinson put Wayne in the ring. Killswitch grabbed Robinson by the throat and was attacked by the Gunns. They sent Killswitch over the barricade.

Robinson and Wayne in the ring. Robinson with a running cannonball followed by a jackhammer. Cage broke up the pin. Cage is surrounded by the Bang Bang Gang. Christians gets out of Robinson's move and ate Left Hand of God. The Gunns hit a double lariat on Cage. Wayne went for a low blow, but Robinson grabbed his arm. Robinson with a powerbomb for two. Robinson went up top, but Killswitch chokeslammed him. Wayne tagged in and hit a Wayne's World on The Gunns on the outside. Cage hit a frog splash on Robinson, but he got a shoulder up.

The referee grabbed Cage's leg, which allowed Mother Wayne to spray Robinson in the face with hair spray. Robinson stumbled back into Cage and Cage hit the Killswitch for the win.
