Kawasaki Super Bowl Ad Features Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mullets
Each year, fans eagerly anticipate the Super Bowl ads as much as the game itself, and during this year's Super Bowl LVIII, WWE legend "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was featured in one. However, his look was arguably more reminiscent of his "Stunning" Steve Austin days in WCW, as he sported a notable blonde hairdo for the occasion.
Austin appeared in an ad for the Japanese automobile company Kawasaki to promote their Ridge side-by-side truck. "The Texas Rattlesnake" sported a mullet in the ad, which played a central role in the ad's theme, with the caption "business in the front, party in the back" being the core message of the commercial. The teaser also shows him smashing up rocks with a sledgehammer, and he expresses his gratitude for the new mullet after it grows on his head.
In a whimsical twist, every animal or person in the truck's path ended up sporting a mullet as it rolled by. One of the animals includes a dog that happens to be hanging out with Austin during his moment of extreme hair growth.
The WWE Hall of Famer had teased the ad's airing during the Super Bowl a few days prior to the event. He posted a photo of himself with a mullet, wearing his trademark Austin shirt with the number "2:11," signifying the date of the Super Bowl. As expected, the sight of Austin rocking a mullet has tickled some members of his loyal fan base on social media as well.
WWE fans react to Steve Austin's CGI mullet
This year's Super Bowl featured several hotly anticipated trailers and commercials, including "Deadpool 3" and "Wicked." However, seeing "Stone Cold" Steve Austin rock a CGI mullet was the highlight for many social media users on X (formerly known as Twitter), who shared their excitement afterward.
This was certainly the case for @stoneluvzbeer, who wrote, "If anyone watched the Super Bowl. What was your favorite commercial? Without a doubt, mine was the mullet commercial with Stone Cold Steve Austin. That one cracked me up."
Some fans, including @AWR_WEEKLY, were also shocked to see Austin with hair again, even if it wasn't real. "Yes, we all know it's computer-generated, but it's still surreal to look at," the X user noted, highlighting that it's the first time he hasn't been bald in decades.
Elsewhere, some people believe that "The Rattlesnake" pulls off the mullet look, and they hope he considers adopting it on a more permanent basis. "Steve Austin with a mullet is the look that needs to stay," @RyClayson added. It remains to be seen if Austin will heed that advice, but it's clear that the viewers enjoyed his cameo. That said, he wasn't the only WWE alum to grace a commercial during the big game.
Jade Cargill and John Cena also appeared in Super Bowl 2024 commercials
New WWE star Jade Cargill is another pro wrestler who appeared in a Super Bowl ad this year, as her Mountain Dew ad, featuring actress Aubrey Plaza, also aired during one of the commercial breaks. In the ad, the former AEW star leaped off the top rope to land a frog splash on the actress.
John Cena also appeared in a FanDuel commercial alongside former WWE 24/7 Champion — and ex-New England Patriots star — Rob Gronkowski. The multi-time World Champion was one of many celebrities who poked fun at the NFL legend for missing a field goal, but it remains to be seen if it will inspire "Gronk" to return to WWE and give Cena a piece of his mind.
The WWE also decided to capitalize on the Super Bowl's popularity by dropping a teaser trailer for WrestleMania 40, which featured Roman Reigns, The Rock, Seth Rollins, and Cody Rhodes. This Sunday's Super Bowl was won by the Kansas City Chiefs, who defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22.
