AEW Dynamite Results 12/27: Continental Classic Finals, ROH World Tag Team Championship Match

This is Wrestling INC.'s live coverage of "AEW Dynamite" for December 27, 2023!

Tonight will be the go-home edition of the show ahead of AEW's World's End PPV this weekend, and the build to that show should be the focus. One way that will happen is with the Continental Classic finals as the Gold League and Blue League winners will be determined tonight to set up the title match at the PPV.

In the Blue League, Bryan Danielson will be competing against Eddie Kingston, with the "American Dragon" already boasting a victory over his opponent in the competition. Meanwhile, in the Gold League, there was a three-way tie, meaning tonight there will be a triple-threat match between Jay White, Jon Moxley, and Swerve Strickland to determine the winner of that group.

Elsewhere, the ROH World Tag Team Championships are going to be on the line, with Samoa Joe teaming with his AEW World's End opponent MJF as they defend the gold against two of The Devil's goons. This match has been teased previously and didn't end up happening due to MJF being attacked backstage, but once again it is expected to take place.

The Don Callis Family will be part of the show as they present a Boxing Week Celebration, plus Mariah May will speak with Renee Paquette after she attacked Riho last week. There will also be women's division action as Skye Blue faces Kris Statlander.

Tensions are also expected to boil over as Adam Copeland and Christian Cage come together for a sitdown interview with Lexy Nair ahead of their upcoming No Disqualification match.

Jon Moxley vs. Swerve Strickland vs. Jay White (Continental Classic - Gold League Final)

Jay White looks to get out of the ring but Swerve Strickland beats him to it as Jon Moxley then clotheslines White out of the ring. Strickland slides back in and goes for a roll-up on Moxley but it doesn't get him the win, and the two of them take their fight outside the ring as well. All three men then brawl around the fans, with Moxley dropping White onto a guardrail while he gets placed onto a chair with Strickland running and hitting a double knee attack.

They make their way back to the ringside area as White hits Moxley with a chop block before sending Strickland into the guardrail. Strickland managed to avoid being dropped onto the ring apron by holding on, and he reverses with a knee strike to White. Moxley then hits White with a knee strike, but Strickland nails a clothesline after biting Moxley's finger. He heads to the second rope and launches himself into the back of Moxley to continue the damage.

Strickland then stomps on both of White's hands before launching himself onto White with a splash. Strickland then launches Moxley out of the ring onto White before heading to the top turnbuckle to hit them both with a crossbody down on the floor. Strickland launches Moxley into the steel stairs with he and White then takes to the ring and brawl to the ring apron where Strickland swipes the legs until Moxley dives through the ring to nail Strickland.

Moxley connects with a piledriver to Strickland back in the ring as he sets in a double wrist lock. Strickland fights back, but as he heads to the top rope his leap gets countered into a DDT from Moxley. He takes Strickland outside the ring but White comes from behind and attacks Moxley with a hair. Strickland and White then exchange various kicks until Strickland wins out with the House Call. He then nails a 450, but Moxley breaks the pinfall attempt with a stomp to Strickland, and all three men are down.

The trio then exchange chops and strikes back and forth, with Moxley German suplexing White before Strickland does the same to him. White then targets the knee of Moxley, but he responds with a cutter. Once again all three exchange shots, but White suplexes Strickland and is then caught into a sleeper hold by Moxley. Strickland breaks it up with a House Call, but he gets sent into a King Kong Lariat. White nails a Bladerunner to Moxley – yet Strickland the pinfall attempt.

White then gets sent into the chair in the corner, and Strickland then almost catches Moxley with a roll-up. They then exchange slaps until Strickland launches Moxley into the turnbuckles. He can't dive off the top turnbuckle because White pushes him, yet he gets caught with the Deathrider.

Guevara says Callis makes everything about him, and he never got a message from him about him being concussed. Callis says he's disappointed in Guevara, and he can choose the other family or his. Callis says he should be smart or he will be as big of a disapoointment as a father as he is a wrestler.

He pushes Callis but the rest of the family jump him until Chris Jericho makes the save. They hug it out but Big Bill and Ricky Starks jump them. The lights then turn off and Sting and Darby Allin return as they help fight away the champions.

Roderick Strong is backstage with Renee Paquette and they show a board which points to MJF being The evil, and he says he will prove it.

Bryan Daneilson vs. Eddie Kingston (Continental Classic - Blue League Final)

Bryan Danielson spends time trying to avoid Eddie Kingston early on, but he finally grabs him and suplexes the "American Dragon," and immediately dives out of the ring onto him. However, as they fight on the apron Danielson drops Kingston with a DDT and follows it with a diving knee. Back inside the ring, Danielson continues to dominate the match, slowly picking down his opponent with a series of kicks as he consistently tells him that, "He's a bum." However, Kingston connects with a suplex, and he then unloads his aggression, chopping Danielson down in the corner of the ring.

Kingston becomes overzealous though and gets caught in a Lebell Lock, but Kingston fights out and reaches the ropes to break it. Danielson hits an arm breaker and then a suplex of his own after, as he then heads to the top turnbuckle. However, he takes too long and Kingston knocks him and then chops him several times, only for Danielson to get out and put Kingston into the tree of woes as he connects with several strikes.

He charges in with a running dropkick and then takes Kingston to the second turnbuckle for elbow strikes, but Kingston reverses Danielson's suplex attempt in mid-air as they collide on the mat. The two men then exchange chops and kicks until Kingston fires up only for Danielson to spit in Kingston's face. Kingston remains composed though and continues chopping away at his opponent, but Danielson then unloads his kicks as Kingston spits at him.

Danielson then misses with a dropkick in the corner, and he's immediately hit with a lariat from Kingston who follows it with a Northern Light's Bomb, but Danielson kicks out! The two then exchange roll-up attempts, but Danielson catches Kingston with the Busiaku Knee, but Kingston kicks out again. Danielson unloads with elbow strikes but then opts to stop to kick his head in.

Kingston responds by flipping Danielson the bird, but as he goes for the Busaiku Knee he gets hit with the Uraken, which he then hits another two times. Kingston powerbombs Danielson and earns the victory!

Winner: Eddie Kingston

After the match, Jon Moxley comes down to check on Danielson, and then he tells him that every time he's stuck his neck out for Kingston all he's ever asked for is his best. Kingston says for someone who thinks the world is against him, he has a lot of people who love him. Moxley says he knows Kingston better than he knows himself, and he knows that he can't beat him, so in his money, Kingston has already lost and given up. He says last time he let him have a warrior death, but this time he will have to earn every inch.

Kingston gets the microphone and reminds Moxley he broke in first and is lucky he lets him breathe. Kingston says on Saturday, the king of the bums will push him. He says when he wanted to quit AEW Moxley wouldn't let him as he needed him around to shape the younger guys. He's going to show him fighting spirit.

Kris Statlander starts the match aggressively, and as Skye Blue tries to reverse with head scissors, Statlander cartwheels out of it. Blue does drive Statlander into the second turnbuckle as she stomps away on her, but Statlander shows her power after with a stalling standing suplex. Blue follows it with a pump kick, and she then avoids a clothesline attempt and uses Statlander's momentum against her by planting Statlander onto the ring apron.

However, inside the ring Statlander gets launched into the turnbuckles, but she responds with forearm strikes as the ladies go back and forth until Blue goes low with a kick to the stomach. Despite that, Statlander comes in with a series of clotheslines and then a running elbow and running knee strike into the corner. She then rolls through into a deadlift German suplex, but Blue manages to kick out still.

In the corner of the ring the ladies brawl until Blue gets sent down, and she distracts the official while Julia Hart appears and distracts Statlander. That allows Blue to hit Code Blue from the top turnbuckle to get the win.

Winer: Skye Blue

After the match, Blue attacks Statlander as she then holds her up so Hart can hit a running back elbow. Willow Nightingale then makes a run to the ring and she takes them down and makes them run away.

Despite that, MJF says he will defend the titles alone, so he immediately attacks the masked man, stomping away on them in the corner before he launches them into the corner.
