Dave Meltzer Contacted AEW's Tony Khan With A Suggestion For Upcoming Sting Retirement

Since Sting announced on the October 18 edition of "AEW Dynamite" that he would retire and his final match would be at AEW Revolution 2024, many have shared their ideas on who the legend should face.

On the latest episode of the "McGuire on Wrestling" podcast, "Wrestling Observer's" Dave Meltzer shared his thoughts on how Sting's retirement match should go. Meltzer revealed on the podcast that he even spoke with AEW CEO Tony Khan about it earlier this year.

"I don't remember if I sent — talked or emailed Tony Khan, but I definitely contacted Tony Khan after that final Noah match that [Great] Muta wrestled and I go, 'This is your template.' You know what I mean. Whenever it comes time for Sting, look for this for ideas because [Pro Wrestling] NOAH did such a phenomenal job," said Meltzer.

Great Muta's retirement match took place on January 22, where he teamed with his former rival Sting and Darby Allin to face Hakushi, AKIRA, and Naomichi Marufuji. Sting and Muta have a long history dating back to April 1989, so it was only fitting to have him part of his retirement tour.

Others in the pro wrestling business have also opined on who the Hall of Famer should face, with former AEW Women's Champion Thunder Rosa sharing that the Stinger's final opponent should be his protégé, Darby Allin. Meanwhile Eric Bischoff, on his podcast "Strictly Business," felt Allin was a good choice, or even WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.
