CM Punk Vs. KENTA Reportedly Being Discussed For AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door
On June 17, on the debut episode of "AEW Collision," CM Punk will make his first appearance for the company since All Out last September, and he's scheduled for the main event in a match that includes old rival Samoa Joe. Now, with the first anniversary of AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door approaching, Fightful Select is reporting that there have been internal discussions for CM Punk to take on a different sort of nemesis: KENTA.
One thing in particular needs to fall into place for this dream match to become a reality. Earlier this week, KENTA implied that for a match with Punk to happen, AEW would need to give him a lot of money, and while there's no confirmation of a deal as of yet, Fightful reports that Punk vs. KENTA is currently "the working plan."
Punk and KENTA have never met in the ring before, but they have taken numerous shots at one another over the years, with their issues largely stemming from Punk's use of Go To Sleep, the finishing maneuver that KENTA popularized, but which Punk has been using as his finisher for decades — the current NJPW Strong Openweight Champion has even demanded royalties. A match between the two at Forbidden Door could go a long way toward putting the feud to bed once and for all.
