Seth Rollins Advances To Final In WWE World Heavyweight Title Tournament

Following his victory over Finn Balor on "WWE Raw," Seth Rollins advanced to the final of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament. At the Night of Champions premium live event, Rollins will face off against the "WWE SmackDown" star who emerges from that side of the tournament bracket.

Friday's pair of triple threat matches are set up with AJ Styles, Edge, and Rey Mysterio making up one, and the other match consisting of United States Champion Austin Theory, Bobby Lashley, and Sheamus. The winner of those two matches will face off and determine Rollins' opponent at Night of Champions to crown the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion.

Rollins and Balor's semi-final match was perhaps their second-most important match, with their first coming in 2016 at SummerSlam, which was to crown the inaugural Universal Champion. Balor ultimately came out on top in that bout, but suffered a shoulder injury and had to vacate the title. The spot that injured Balor was called back to in their match tonight.

Before getting in the ring with Balor, Rollins had to win a triple threat match against Shinsuke Nakamura and Damian Priest, neither of whom who have ever held a World Championship in WWE.

In a recent Wrestling Inc. survey conducted on Twitter, the vast majority of respondents thought that Rollins should be the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion. In the poll, Rollins beat Balor, Cody Rhodes, and Brock Lesnar with a sizable majority of votes. With his victory over Balor tonight, he's one step closer to becoming the inaugural champion.
