World Heavyweight Title Tournament Reportedly Set For 'Significant' Time On WWE Raw

The World Heavyweight Championship tournament is currently scheduled to take up a "significant" part of tonight's "WWE Raw," according to a report from Fightful Select

The tournament will see four Triple Threat matches take place, two this evening and two on "WWE SmackDown." The winners of those will face each other in a one-on-one contest to earn the right to compete at Night Of Champions where the new champion will be crowned in Saudi Arabia. Tonight will see Cody Rhodes, Damian Priest, The Miz, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and Shinsuke Nakamura participate, and as of Sunday, it was the plan for the title itself to be at ringside.

There is currently uncertainty over who will be in each match, as WWE has yet to announce those details. However, that leaves Edge, a returning AJ Styles, Sheamus, "The All Mighty" Bobby Lashley, current United States Champion Austin Theory, and Rey Mysterio as the tourney participants on "SmackDown," primed and ready to square off with tonight's winner later this month.

Rollins, Miz, and Balor are the only wrestlers from tonight's side of the bracket to have previously held a world title on WWE's main roster. However, Nakamura is a former "NXT" Champion, Priest held the "NXT" North American Championship, and Rhodes is still looking to "finish the story" after his big win over Brock Lesnar at Backlash. One thing the overall winner can expect is to continue competing regularly, because Paul "Triple H" Levesque promised as much when he announced the title was being revived.
