Bayley & Dakota Kai Getting Shot At WWE Women's Tag Titles

Damage CTRL has an opportunity to end its first official night on "WWE SmackDown" by once again claiming the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. Following their win over Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez on the May 1 episode of "Raw" this past Monday, it was announced Friday night that Bayley and Dakota Kai will be teaming up again to take on the champions on the May 12 "SmackDown," this time with the titles on the line.

Previously, Kai held the WWE Women's Tag Titles on two occasions, both with Damage CTRL stablemate IYO SKY as her partner. And up until this past Monday, the faction as a whole was having a tough time picking up victories. Kai and SKY lost their titles to Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Lita on the February 27 edition of "Raw." Damage CTRL then turned around and lost as a trio to Lynch, Lita, and fellow Hall of Famer Trish Stratus at WrestleMania 39. Not content to stop there, Kai and SKY lost once more on the "Raw" after WrestleMania, this time against Morgan and Rodriguez with an eventual shot at the WWE Women's Tag Titles on the line.

Bayley and Kai's recent win was not only their first in two months, but it was also the first time Kai teamed with Bayley instead of SKY. Whether that becomes a pattern going forward remains to be seen, however. In the meantime, this will be the second title defense for Morgan and Rodriguez after defeating Lynch and Stratus for the belts on April 10, having already successfully defended them against the budding team of Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville on the April 28 episode of "SmackDown."
