Why WWE Reportedly Changed Its Original Plan For Bad Bunny At Backlash
Bad Bunny will have a big role at WWE's next premium live event, Backlash this Saturday in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Grammy Award-winning recording artist will also be facing The Judgment Day's Damian Priest in a street fight, though according to Fightful Select, that wasn't always the plan.
The match was supposed to be Bunny teaming with WWE Hall of Fame Rey Mysterio to face Priest and Dominik Mysterio. It was noted that the plans reportedly changed, because both Bunny and WWE, were said to have "felt comfortable" with his in-ring ability to have a "good singles match." The current betting odds for the Backlash match have Bunny defeating Priest.
Fightful also revealed how the tag team match was going to end: Bunny pinning Dominik. As noted, at WrestleMania 39, Bad Bunny was one of the commentators during Rey Vs. Dominik's match, but ended up helping Rey win his match against Dominik. When Dominik tried to use a chain to hit his father, Bunny grabbed it away from him. That act at WrestleMania made Bunny a target for Judgment Day. The night after WrestleMania 39 on the April 3 episode of WWE Raw, Bunny was in the crowd and Priest ended up chokeslamming the rapper through the announce desk.
Other big matches set for Backlash include Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar, Bianca Belair defending the "Raw" Women's Championship against IYO Sky, Rhea Ripley defending the "SmackDown" Women's Championship against Zelina Vega, and the WWE United States Champion Austin Theory defending his title against Bobby Lashley and Bronson Reed.
